Christmas 2008

 THE LEWIS FAMILY ADVENTURES!
Ok, Better late then never right.  The kids and I (plus our two beagles) drove from Utah to Pennsylvania to spend Christmas with Clay and our families.  It was an interesting trip.  We left on a Saturday morning a mist a snow storm.  Our drive through Wyoming and Nebraska was to say the least, scary!!  I-80 was being closed behind us as we drove through white-out conditions, doing 40 MPH with the four way flashers on.  At one point traffic came to a complete stop for about 30 minutes, after which we came upon two semi's, one plowed into the back end of the other and the cab was pretty much toast.  Iowa was strewn with dozens of cars and tucks on their roofs, sides, in the medium, along the side of the road, every where, we lost count, but we continued on, even after we passed the semi-trailer that was just a smolder shell.  We were determined to get to Daddy!!  Really, have you ever traveled 1900 miles with three teenagers, two dogs and enough stuff in the truck to keep a small army alive for weeks??  Honestly they where good though, I only had to threaten to start though Christmas presents out the window once before they stopped bickering...  Of course, the didn't have to get out of the car in -4 degree weather with 35 mph wind gusts to walk the dogs, needless to say, the dogs held their bladders for hours and didn't complain!!!  Well, we made it to PA in three days, momma didn't stop much, one night we had donuts in the car for dinner, I think that was Iowa and it felt like 30 degrees below when I got out to walk the dogs!  But it was worth it...  we all had a great visit.

CHRISTMAS EVE AT TIM & SUZETTE'S
(AIDEN'S 1ST CHRISTMAS)

We had a great 10 days with the family, then we had to drive home!  Clay came on the ride with us, and guess what, we drove straight though!!   38 hours in the car, with two kids, and two dogs (Megan flew home after spending a week in  MD with her friends)  I was never more happy to see my bed....  of course after we dug the truck out of the drive way!!  We tried to pull into it, but got stuck in the three feet of snow that was currently taken up residence there. After getting the truck in the garage, Clay and I went to bed and slept from 10 am to 4 pm.

Can't wait to June when I get to do it again!!

The kids and I went to the Zoo!  We all had a good time.  The kids took most of the pictures, Matthew's favorite picture is the smiling goat.

Marissa - Horse Whisperer

Marissa rides horse on Saturdays at a riding school in Salt Lake.  She started riding in Maryland when she was 10 years old and she has come a long way.  I still get nervous when she's jumping and I'm glad when the hour is up.

One day she might get her own horse (when she's old enough to drive and take care of it every day!!)  until then I like borrowing other peoples horses.

Happy Halloween

The kids carved pumpkins on Thursday night and did an awesome job!!

Megan did the "dolphin wearing a witches hat eating a jelly fish"
Matt did the "throwing up pumpkin"  and
Marissa's just looks scared because it got too close to Matt's pumpkin.

Hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween...

Arches National Park - Day Two

After our little side trip to Four Corners, we headed back to Arches and hiked up to "Delicate Arch."  It was a fun hike and the views where fabulous.

On the way out we stopped at other view points and took lots and lots of pictures, click here to enjoy them!

Four Corners National Monument

We started day two out with a trip farther south to Four Corners National Monument.  This is the only place in the U.S. where 4 states meet:  AZ, NM, UT, and CO.

Well all I can say is: "now I can say I've been there."  "Hi Mom!"

Arches National Park - Day One

The Lewis family took a trip down to Arches National Park outside of Moab, Utah.  This is day one.  We took the 7.2 mile hike which started at "landscape arch" and took us to "private arch" "double O arch" "wall arch" (which is the arch that collapsed) past lots of "fins" and back to "landscape arch"  It was a lot of climbing and some scary moments for momma, but we had a great time.

First Park City Snow of 2008 - 2009

It may not seem like much, but we got our first snow for the 2008 - 2009 winter season.  It started yesterday morning and by afternoon most of it melted from the lower areas, but it started up again this morning and left the mountains covered in a foggy snow.  I hope we get a little less than the 500+ inches we got last year.  (The last time it snowed was 4 months ago on June 11th.)

Megan's 18th Birthday Celebration!

Megan celebrated her 18th birthday on October 10th.  Clay was out of town so we celebrated it with her on the 11th.  We went to our usual birthday hang out "Outback Steak House"  I'd like to say Megan goes for the steaks, but she's been a "non-meat eater" since the 6th grade, Megan goes to Outback for the bread!  She had 2 loafs that night, the rest of the family split one loaf.  Here's to many more loafs and many more Happy Birthdays!!

2008 Army Ten Miler

TEAM MASON runs the Army 10-Miler for the second year!

Yes we did it.  Congratulations to all!  Kendall ran the fasted time this year!  She's really been working out - you go girl!!  Jen and I came in 2nd, great running for to "old" retired Army bums who haven't been working out!!!.  Great job to Mom and Dad for going the distance.  Congrats to Jackie on her virgin run!!  And a special "shout-out" to my sister Kim, it was a tough summer, but she ran her butt off and made the distance!  Can't wait to next year, maybe I'll be able to get my nephew Josh to run since I can't get Tim or Suzette to run (Josh is at Marine Boot Camp and is going to be stationed in Washington D.C. with the U.S. Marine Corps Band so I'm sure he'll be thrilled to run the Army race with us, but you won't find me at the Marine Marathon any time soon....)

Before  After
No Clay did not run, he didn't even stay and take pictures, he rode 100 miles on his bike the day before and sleep in the car during the race
A very healthy lunch after the race!!

Kendall and Michelle run the Golden Gate Bridge!

On August 3rd Kendall and I ran the San Francisco 1/2 Marathon. It was a great trip. The views during the run (almost) made the hills we had to run worth it!!
Looking forward to the Army 10-miler in October.
